STEVE RIZZI CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS
STEVE RIZZI IN DISTRICT 33A
GAMBRILLS, MD (JUNE, 23, 2002) –
Following the re-districting action of the Maryland Court
of Appeals, Anne Arundel County business leader Steve
Rizzi is now in District 33A which includes Crofton,
Severna Park, Millersville, Gambrills, and some portions
of surrounding areas. He intends to run for the Maryland
House of Delegates in that district.
The
Maryland State Court of Appeals ruled on June 11, 2002
that the Governor’s plan for re-districting for the state
of Maryland was unconstitutional under the grounds that
the plan presented significant portions that did not meet
the requirements for “compactness,” and in addition the
Justices noted that insufficient “due regard” was given to
natural boundaries such as rivers and the boundaries of
counties and municipalities.
Following that ruling, the Appeals Court acted to redraw
the lines with the help of outside consultants. The
resulting plan was made available to the public on June
21, 2002. The plan calls for the re-drawing of many
districts in the state, including District 33. District
33A was geographically expanded to re-unite portions of
District 33 which were separated under the Governor’s
plan. “I am pleased to see Crofton and the other areas
re-united under the Judges’ plan,” said Rizzi. “Having
lived in Anne Arundel County for over fifteen years, I am
thrilled to get the chance to represent my friends and
neighbors.” Mr. Rizzi continued, “My three children have
gone to school in Crofton for years, and I look forward to
personalizing the campaign with the experiences we have
had here in our local schools.”
District 33A is a conservative Maryland district which
matches nicely with Mr. Rizzi’s pro-business and fiscally
conservative background. The district will have two seats
in the House of Delegates, one of which is currently an
open seat, while the other seat is being contested by both
Republican and Democratic challengers.
Steve
Rizzi is a Corporate Vice President at Science
Applications International Corporation (SAIC). SAIC is
the nation’s largest privately held research and
development firm. SAIC had over $6B in annual revenue
last year, with over 40,000 employees worldwide. More
than 4,000 of those people live or work in Maryland. More
than 100 work in Anne Arundel County. Mr. Rizzi is a
recognized expert in the application of technology to
education, and he has been involved in numerous local,
state, and federal task forces and committees. His
expertise has been relied upon by Maryland legislators in
the drafting of three bills which are law today.
